First, we want to gather a sense of your personal aesthetic and vision. Are there specific Firefly Jewelers pieces or motifs (such as hand-carved leaves, botanical accents, or antique filigree) that you’re drawn to? Which metals, settings, stone colors, and cuts do you prefer?
Tip: The more detailed your mood board or inspiration photos are, the better!
Once we establish a clear design direction, we’ll provide you with estimated price ranges. From there, we begin sourcing hand-selected gemstones tailored precisely to your vision and budget.
What happens once the stones are selected?
For custom commissions, Leah will hand-sketch your design concepts or create detailed visual layouts for your review and approval. Custom pieces also include a 3D printed resin casting for you to try on and see in person before the piece starts to be crafted. This ensures every proportion, metal texture, and stone placement feels perfectly balanced before fabrication begins.
Can I visit the Firefly studio in person?
Local Clients: We welcome you to schedule an in-person appointment at our Lynchburg, Virginia studio to discuss your design concepts and view gemstones in person.
Virtual Clients: We regularly work with clients nationwide. We share high-definition photos, video consultations, and detailed design sketches so you can experience the exact color, brilliance, and scale of your selected stones from anywhere.
What happens if I have an existing piece and would like to have the stone reset?
Resetting inherited or sentimental stones into a new custom setting is one of our favorite projects. To begin:
- Send us clear photographs of your existing jewelry along with any documentation you have (appraisals, lab certificates, or metal details).
- Share your preferred style directions (settings, metals, and accent details).
- We will evaluate the piece and provide starting price ranges.
If your design requires additional accent stones (such as complementary side stones or halo accents), we will source and present options for your selection.
How long does the production process take?
Our custom production timeline typically ranges from 8 to 12 weeks, depending on the complexity of the metalwork, hand-carving details, and stone sourcing requirements.
